St Mary's Scottish Episcopal Church, Broughty Ferry
Baptisms
Baptisms, as well as Thanksgivings for the Birth of a Child, are wonderful occasions to celebrate people coming to Faith, of ANY AGE; therefore, St Mary's would be delighted to celebrate such a momentous spiritual event with you..
At Holy Baptism, you begin your child’s journey of faith with them and promise to help them to discover God’s love. Your child becomes a member of God’s church and part of God’s family. Baptism is a very special occasion for you and for the church. When you bring children to Holy Baptism, you and the Godparents make statements of faith and promises on behalf of your child. It is important that you know what these statements and promises are in advance and that you all think about them. They are precious.

In the Scottish Episcopal Church, it’s the normal practice for the Rite of Holy Baptism to take place within a service of Holy Communion; that said, it is occasionally possible to conduct Holy Baptisms in a shorter service on a Sunday afternoon.

Weddings
Congratulations on your engagement!
Here at St. Mary’s, we want to make your wedding day as memorable, personal, prayerful and joyful as we possibly can. Getting married in a church adds something that can’t be found anywhere else. The following are reasons for getting married within the Scottish Episcopal Church in general and at St. Mary's Church, Broughty Ferry in particular:
-
A church wedding does add a spiritual dimension to your marriage, even if you’re not “religious.” God’s blessing is the main attraction for many couples, whatever their beliefs;
-
Church buildings offer beauty and a sense of connection with something bigger than yourselves. For some couples, it’s imagining the past generations who have been married in St. Mary’s; for others, it’s that sense of God watching over them in precisely that life-changing moment;
-
Or, perhaps, it’s just that a church building simply seems like the proper place to hold your wedding. Churches can be described as 'peaceful', 'serene', or having an atmosphere that makes the Wedding Day & Ceremony a particularly special experience. With its long history and attractive interior, St Mary’s Church Broughty Ferry reflects all of these.
So if you’re thinking about getting married at St. Mary's, we’d love to help. We can work with you to plan the service so that it feels personal, meaningful and beautiful.
